GenuWin Reign 14uSE’s Late Push Leads To Victory Over Illinois Venom 15u

GenuWin Reign 14uSE bested Illinois Venom 15u 10-9 on Sunday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at nine in the top of the sixth when Payton Jelley singled, scoring one run.

The game was back-and-forth, but a single in the sixth inning helped GenuWin Reign 14uSE take the lead for good.

GenuWin Reign 14uSE were the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run.

Illinois Venom 15u took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Sydney Grijalva scored after tagging up, and Molly Shanahan singled to center field, each scoring one run.

Bristol Scherwin doubled to center field on an 0-2 count, which helped GenuWin Reign 14uSE tie the game at two in the top of the second.

Illinois Venom 15u took the lead in the bottom of the second. Nikki Kinsella scored after tagging up, to give Illinois Venom 15u the advantage, 3-2.

Illinois Venom 15u added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Grijalva doubled to center field, GenuWin Reign 14uSE committed an error, and Evelyn Coffey grounded out, each scoring one run.

GenuWin Reign 14uSE flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Alexis Corral that drove in two.

Illinois Venom 15u jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fifth when an error scored two runs, and Aniyah Navarro grounded out, scoring one run.

GenuWin Reign 14uSE took the lead, 10-9, in the top of the sixth thanks to singles by Emmarie Catlin, and Jelley.

Olivia Strain earned the win for GenuWin Reign 14uSE. The hurler allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none. Maddy Rocque took the loss for Illinois Venom 15u. The hurler went four and one-third innings, surrendering seven runs (one earned) on seven hits, striking out one and walking none. Kaylee Machalek stepped in the circle first for GenuWin Reign 14uSE. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and three runs (zero earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking one. McKenzie Strausberger appeared in relief for GenuWin Reign 14uSE.

GenuWin Reign 14uSE amassed 10 hits in the game. Scherwin and Avery Vanek were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for GenuWin Reign 14uSE. Scherwin, Catlin, and Corral each drove in two runs for GenuWin Reign 14uSE.

Coffey provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Illinois Venom 15u with two runs batted in. Grijalva, Tessa Cole, and Shanahan each collected one hit for Illinois Venom 15u. Kinsella paced Illinois Venom 15u with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game. Grijalva stole two bases. Illinois Venom 15u stole six bases in the game.
